Holgate Road Bridge York
Holgate Road Bridge York
Holgate Road Bridge is a road over rail bridge in the centre of York. Originally constructed in 1894 it carries the A59 primary road into the city centre. Each day over 600 trains cross under the bridge on the East Coast Main Line and Leeds Lines together with 24,000 cars and 4000 pedestrians over the bridge.
The project was for the complete structural renovation of this historic bridge and Nationwide Concrete Finishers were employed to carry out the complex structural repairs to the jack arches and to coat the concrete and steel with Epigrip waterproofing system to stop corrosion.
The particularly challenging project involved working six months of Saturday nights during possessions of the track to enable access between the 25kV cables to carry out the works.
Nationwide Concrete Finishers had to seek approval for the proposed repairs from Network Rail due to the location being to the deck soffit immediately above the tracks, demonstrating the integrity of the product which carried no risk to spalling during the design life.
Nationwide Concrete were proud to play a key part in the project which received the ICE Historic Structures Award in 2008 and two separate Highly Commended Awards at the Network Rail Partnership Awards in 2009.
